OXID goes Open Source

Today we got a new open source shop-system: OXID eShop CE.
The OXID eSales AG launched their new Releases 4.0 for Professional and Enterprise Edition – and beside that – a brandnew “Community Edition” which is actually exact the same as the Professional Edition – but: it’s completely open source – and: it’s for free.
As I know a new community platform with several docs and a new forum is planed as well. Unfortunately today there’s only a sort of prototype of this new platform online …
This new open source edition now makes it possible for everyone to use, change and extend the software which is released unter GPL V3.
I think this was a brave decision and I am very curious about the consequences during the next months. Probably we should see some rapid development of all sorts of extensions and modifications. Exciting times for OXID …
